NRL Jerseys. Melbourne Storm 2011

The Melbourne Storm jersey uses vertical lightning bolts over the chest to create a dynamic design. It leads the eye down and up to the logo placed on the left shoulder and a crest on the right. This design is taken over by the sponsor logo ‘me Bank’ the purple is vibrant and is outlined by a dark blue stripe across the shoulders. The lightning bolts are coloured white where as on the logo the bolt in yellow.

The main elements used are line and colour. These contribute to the dynamics of the design due to strong jagged lines of the bolt shooting own the jersey. These elements help the design come together.  The main principle used is dynamics. This is evident in the lines of the lightning bolts. Scale is used for the comparison of the bolts and the logos. The ‘me Bank’ logo takes up most of the design and looks out of place because its design uses stability and form.

The jersey uses abstract art because of the shapes and colours used.

The concept is to have a brightly coloured jersey for the athletes to see their teammates on the field. The lightning bolt is a good example of one of the motifs used because it represents power and strength. This is also used for ancient Greek mythology for the greek God Zeus.

My personal opinion of this design is it takes away from the meaning of the jersey. This is because of the massive sponsor on the front. I think the colours work well with the design but the silver bolts should be coloured yellow to relate to the logo.
